14. Some people think that they can learn better by themselves than with a teacher. Others think that it is always better to have a teacher. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons to develop your essay.

Nowadays, many students do not  like to go to school. Some  students even ignore their teachers and revise other subjects when they are having the lessons as they think that they can learn better by themselves than with a teacher. However, most students think differently. They think that having a teacher is very important and is always better. In this essay, I am going to argue that having a teacher is better than learning on our own.

Students can learn from well-educated teachers than learn on their own.  Most of the teachers in our school have a degree in universities and they are major in the subjects that they teach in schools. They  study that subject comprehensively  in universities and they are very familiar with that subject. Therefore, they can explain the concepts in detail to us. We can always have a better understanding towards that chapter in the lessons and we do not  have to spend much time to revise it at home. Sometimes, it is quite difficult to learn by ourselves and we may come across many problems while we are revising. It is more obvious when we are in senior  form. Some of the theories are quite difficult to understand without teachers'  explanation. At school, when we come across questions over the chapters, we can ask the teachers immediately and they will  explain to us  patiently in great detail.

To be assessed by teachers,  they  will drive students  to learn. At schools, teachers will give us a test after teaching several chapters. Then, we will work hard on that subject and sometimes will  study round the clock in order to have a bright result in a test. Sometimes, this kind of pressure is good to us since it can drive us to do better. We need teacher's assessments which can reflect our strengths and weaknesses. If we study by ourselves, we will not have this kind of pressure and will become lazier. We also do not know our strengths and weaknesses.

Apart from assessment , we do not  just acquire knowledge from teachers, but moral standard as well.  Teachers not only teach us things in  books, but also the way to be a good student. When we are on the wrong track, they will  correct us. Teachers are the lighthouses in the sea. They give students' light. They will  teach us how to distinguish between the right and the wrong. When we come across problems, they will  try to overcome  us. They will  share our ups and downs.

All in all, having a teacher is very important. Students should concentrate on the lessons and respect their teachers. They should not think that it is useless to have a teacher. Teachers can also teach students in an interesting way in order to have a better atmosphere in the lessons.
