29.      It has recently been announced that a new high school may be built in your community. Do you support or oppose this plan? Why? Use specific reasons and details in your answer. 

Many students complain that they are required to travel over a long way to school. Parents also criticize that it is a waste of time for their children to travel to and from school. The announcement of building a new school in our community will be surely a piece of good news. In this essay, I will examine the merits of building a new high school near us.

Studying in a school near your place will be a sound idea to teenagers, especially for junior form students. As they always take  time to adapt to a new learning environment, studying in a near-by school will help them release their burden. Since they are familiar with this environment, they know the basic facilities there, such as basketball courts, shopping centre, library and the like. Furthermore, they know where they can have lunch or the way to go home. It will alleviate their anxiety when they start their new secondary school life.

Apart from the environment, the transportation fare of travelling will be much reduced. As we all know, Hong Kong is facing the economic turmoil. Many people have their income cut or lose their jobs and become unemployed. Furthermore, after the terrorist attack in the USA, economic problems in Hong Kong become even more acute. Hundred dollars of transportation costs will already be a heavy financial burden to the family. If children can study in a near-by high school, it will much alleviate their parents’ pressure. Moreover, students can go to school on foot. It suits the security purposes. Parents always fear that their children will be injured or hurt when there are traffic accidents. They are often frozen with fear when there are traffic accidents shown on television. It is safer for students to go to school on foot.

Besides, studying near-by school will save time. We do not need to get up earlier to avoid a traffic jam. We can utilize time. For instance, we can participate in more extra-curricular activities to have relaxation. Hong Kong students lack exercise. Doing exercise can help to build up muscles and have a healthy life. Moreover, we can gain many experiences and skills by participating in them, for example, cooperate skills, social skills, teamwork, to list just a few. Travelling a long distance will be very exhausted. It will severely affect our academic results as we can hardly concentrate during the lessons. Now, we can allocate  time for a rest or review what we have learnt. It is beneficial to us.

   All in all, it is a marvelous idea to build a new high school near us. The education department should consider more good ways to benefit the pillar our next generation. Hong Kong’s future is depending on their hands. I desire to see a thrive economy in Hong Kong.
