When you were born, the first person you saw was your parent. When you were a baby, you needed to learn how to crawl, how to walk, how to speak and how to run to your parents. When you grow up gradually, your parents teach you other daily living skills, such as putting on clothes, bathing, carrying chopsticks, brushing your teeth and using various stuffs like pencils. Therefore, like other animals, parents are the best teachers. In this essay, I will argue that parents are the best teachers.
Parents have been teaching us since we were born. When we are old enough to go to kindergarten, our teachers teach us many things and knowledge. But our parents teach us even earlier. Every thing in the world is new and strange to children. They are filled with curiosity. They want to know what happen around them. They want to ask something that they do not know. If their parents answer patiently, they may remember it even many years later. In fact, many people think that Cantonese is a complicated language; it is very difficult to learn. But everyone can speak it fluently if his parents are the native speakers of Cantonese. When they were very small, learning the speech from parents is very important.
Parents help us to learn while we are at school. We go to school every day to study. But would you get a good result if your parents do not help you? They teach us how to distinguish between the right or the wrong. They would teach us to be a good person, the ways to help other people, respect others and try your best to do everything.
Children imitate their parents. Our parentsˇ¦ habits and behaviour would affect children a lot. If our parents are polite to others, we will be a polite person with a high probability. However, many parents do not set a good model to their children. When their children grow up, they imitate their bad behaviour. They are impolite, and they may addict to smoking, gambling and fighting. Teenagers are susceptible to peer pressure. If their parents do not take care of them and tell them what is the way they should do, teenagers would turn bad easily.
Plenty of teenagers commit crimes; most of them are the ones who are lack of care and role-models. Parents should teach their children patiently as they are the best teachers. In Hong Kong, the frequency of the juvenile delinquency is high. It is high time for parents to set role models for their children.
