Romeo Must Die

 

‘Romeo Must Die’ is about the authority competed between the yellow and the black in the underworld society of the United States. The film is mainly about the businesses trade between the Chinese and the American. Each has its own authority and social force. The film first opens  with a fight between the Chinese and the black. However, behind the fight, white people gain power. They aimed at enjoying the benefits after both the Chinese and the black people who lose  their authorities in society. We can see that the battle never come to the end. In this essay, I will argue  their love in an unclear and boring way. 

 

The film conveys righteous is greater than the relationship between father and son. In a  large country, just like the United States, battles among different types of people are continuous and inevitable. Most of the powerful leaders are selfish and do something unethically in order to get greater control of society. Therefore, it makes many people worry about their life every day. In the film, the main character, Ah Hong, is the son of the one powerful underworld group. Since he knows that his lovely brother  is  killed by the other underworld groups, he starts  to take revenge on the murder. However, he knows that the fact. His younger brother is  killed by his father, which is the leader of the underworld group. Ah Hong does not want his father continue to do unethical trades and wants to stop his father from killing more innocent people, so he lastly kills  his father.

 

The film conveys the message that struggling for the authority will never come to the good ending. Ah Hong’s father is a good example. He has  struggled power  for many years. Many people hate his unethical and cruel behaviors, even his son. Thus, he is  killed by his son at last. Is struggling for power so important? Ah Hong’s father loses  his temper and even is  killed his son because of struggle . His ambition leads him to lose his son forever. From the film, we can learn that we should satisfy with the present condition and not to have  great ambition of battling for those unimportant authority. Otherwise, we must lose  some precious things.

 

Generally, sub-plots  are  about the love between Ah Hong and other characters, Jessie in the film. Jessie is  the daughter of other underworld group’s leader, which is  the foe of Ah Hong’s father. The plot is their love in an unclear and boring way. As majority of the plot describes  the battles between two groups, it neglects  the love between Ah Hong and Jessie. Therefore, the whole plot is  quite boring. In my opinion, adding more plots that are describing their love will arouse the interest of the audiences. Lastly, I admire the ‘kung fu’ performed by Lee Lin Kit who acted as Ah Hong in the film. Thus, I think the part of performing kung fu is  the most interesting part in the whole film.
