Dangers
of taking drugs
We are going to
prepare for a presentation to the campaign manager next week. In this presentation, we
have to show how to transmit the anti-drugs message effectively to the Hong Kong younger
generation. We have to make teenagers be aware of the dangers of taking drugs.
In order to reach
teenagers, it is better way to invite the pop stars and singers to transmit
the message across the teenagers. They are idols of teenagers who will follow their
advice. First of all, it is suggested inviting some pop stars and singers to interview
drug addicts. In the interview, the pop stars and the singers understand their
reasons for taking drugs and then they console them and ask them to give drug up.
People may abuse drugs because of peer group pressure, curiosity and ignorance, escape
from reality, etc. Messages transmitted will be impressive if the transmitter understand
the plight of drug addicts. This can be broadcast on some TV special programs to let the
teenagers know how are the aftermath of drug abuse.
Apart from pop stars
and singers, the Correctional Services Department, the Department of Health, or
other voluntary organizations should also be interviewed. We may take a video about the
aftermath of taking drugs and the process of treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts.
For students, we can show the video at the general education lessons in schools to help
them to get the message across the students.
On the other hand,
accessing the Internet is a trend. Nowadays, people surf the net to obtain
information. We can therefore take this opportunity to have a homepage competition.
The topic is "Anti Drug Abuse". Moreover, we will also hold a slogan
competition. This allows the teenagers to exhibit their creativity. To encourage more
people to take part, promotion can be held through website and valuable gifts will be
given to winners.
Furthermore, we can
draw young people¡¦s attention by poster promotion. Its content include
some common abused substances such as heroin, cannabis and cough medicines. We can
display posters in large shopping malls or some crowded places such as Causeway Bay, Tsim
Sha Tsui, Mongkok where many youngsters will watch it.
At last, prevention
is better than cure. Drug abuse not only affects individuals, but also families and
society. They may not have a good relationship with other family members. Society has to
spend much money on fighting against drug abuse. Drug addicts in Hong Kong are getting
younger now. It is time for us to provide preventive measures to fight against drug abuse.
