A drama for an Arts Competition

Hong Kong Student Arts Competition will be held next year and the theme of this competition is’ Hong Kong in the Future.’ Our group will take part in the competition. In this discussion, we will talk about which art form we would like to concentrate on and how we will produce our entry.

First of all, I suggest playing a drama. As we know, drama is the most popular art Hong Kong. It can also make some special props and stage designs to show our themes. Thus, it can make the drama more interesting and audience can understand the themes easily. Moreover, our group members are good at drama and have taken part in the drama in the past. The competition can give us a chance to reflect our talent in drama. Therefore, we have confidence in playing it satisfactory.

Besides, we should consider how to produce our entry. As the theme of competition is ‘Hong Kong in the Future.’ We should determine what theme would be revealed in the drama. In my opinion, pollution is an ideal subject. Due to the development of technology and population, it is serious in Hong Kong. For instance, there are red tides. The sea is full of rubbish. We can focus on the effects of sea pollution, such as health and environmental problems. It can transmit the message about sea pollution directly. Moreover, it can also educate people how to minimize pollution problems. We can set two separate scenes, one is a fragrant harbor, and the other one is a stink one, and the other one is dirtiness due to pollution. It can make a comparison to audience and ask them to observe an effect. Furthermore, we should bring some props to set a scene of the drama, such as dead bodies of fishes, cans and bottles, etc. in order to create a life situation. We can also make some crafts. For instance, we can crumple some paper to make ‘fish’ and other animals. Moreover, we can also use a blue glassy paper to be a ‘sea’, etc. therefore, we can use the resources to set the polluted sea. For costumes, I suggest wearing causal wear, such as T-shirt and blue jeans. We do not have to spend much money on buying valuable clothes.

One-month prior to the competition, we should rehearse at least once a day until the competition comes. That ensures the drama can run smoothly. With our school’s support, we hope our group can be approved in the art competition.
