Set 16 Year 2002

Many teenagers like shopping very much.  When they are free, they like to ask their friends to go shopping together.  In order to develop into informed and intelligent shoppers, students need to follow some guidelines.  In this way, they can buy products at reasonable prices.

Ideas and Information given to young shoppers

Students should check the products carefully before buying them.  They usually like to buy things from second-hand shops as they have limited pocket money.  They need to buy new textbooks in every new academic year and they cost them more than one thousand dollars.  It is really expensive to many families.  Thus, many students choose to buy the second-hand books from the second- hand bookstore.  Undoubtedly, the prices of the old textbooks are much cheaper.  Yet, the quality is lower.  Sometimes, several pages in the books are missing or the books are the old edition.  When buying those textbooks, students should check them carefully and should not buy the damaged ones .  Apart from second-hand books, students also like to buy the second- hand clothes.  When they see something cheap, they will lose  their control and buy dozens of shirts or trousers.  Some even do not fit their sizes and have some small faults or sewing defects.  Therefore, students should control themselves while  buying the second- hand products.

Apart from checking the products carefully, students should compare the prices of the product at different shops.  Take buying a computer as an example.  Some shops may charge the computer of some models as a higher price.  On the contrary, some shops may have discount on buying a particular model.  It is therefore necessary to visit more shops to check the prices carefully.  It can help us to save much money.  Moreover, we should buy the products in some famous brand-name shops.  The quality of the products there are guaranteed.  No fake products are sold.  We can even exchange our products if we find there are any problems within seven days.  For some small shops, they do not allow exchange of products.  It is not beneficial to us.

On top of it, when students want to buy products, like, computers, digital cameras, etc, they  need to read the brochure carefully themselves.  Thus, they can know the most up-dated products and will not buy an  old model.  Some salemen  may try to persuade you to buy the old model as they want to sell all of them and don¡¦t want to keep any stock of it.  We need to be smart and do not be cheated by those salesmen.

Furthermore, students should avoid internet shopping.  Internet shopping is very common in the world.  People just need to click several buttons to buy the products they want without going out.  Yet, it is very dangerous to have internet shopping.  We are always required to give our credit card number and some private information.  Some companies may just charge you the money without giving you the products.  Besides, the qualities of products are not guaranteed.  We can just see the pictures of the products and the products may not have the good quality as mentioned in the descriptions.  Hence, students should not buy products from the  internet.

All in all, these guidelines are crucial to all  young shoppers.  As most students are not mature, they do not know the way to be smart shoppers.  Very often, they may buy some low quality products.  After knowing such guidelines, they can be informed and intelligent shoppers.

Ways to present the information

We can have an exhibition in our school hall.  We can show all the information on the notice board and have someone to explain to the students.  In addition, we can design a leaflet and distribute them to the students in our school.  Thus, they can bring the leaflet along with them when they go shopping and they can read it at anytime they like.
