Recently, I received some complaints from classmates about the ban of using pagers in school. I am writing to you in order to explain why the ban has been imposed. Nowadays, technology develops very fast. People can communicate with each other easily and promptly whatever they are in different countries. They can also communicate with one another in a street by means of a mobile phone or leave a message by means of a pager. It’s a great vogue and also a kind of convenience to possess a pager. However, students and teachers must not use it in school.
To use pagers in school, many disturbances arise especially in lessons. During lessons, the teacher and students are concentrated on their teaching and learning. If a pager beeps, this will disturb both the teacher and students who will pay less attention in class. Moreover, the pagers’ owner may feel embarrassed, as he doesn’t know whether he has to answer the call or not. He also distracts other students from attending the lesson. Of course, he will lose concentration on study in that lesson. The use of pager in school really causes disturbance to students, teachers and pagers’ owner. Why do we impose the ban?
From another point of view, punishment is difficult to impose if the pagers are not banned. The teacher may not know how to deal with it. Should he punish the pager’s owner? If the school has not set any regulation on it, the teacher does not have any authority to punish him. However, he indeed does something wrong. Then, the teacher may be puzzled about it. This may affect the judgement of the teacher.
The image of students is spoiled. As the image of students is cute, neither the school nor the parents of students want the image to be ruined. Do you have ever thought why we need to wear school uniforms? The school wants us to have a uniformed image; it will not let us use pagers so as to protect our childlike image. Our parents also share the same viewpoint as the school does. For teachers, they need to be the models of students so that they are required to ban the use of pagers in school.
In addition, the use of pagers in school may cause some emotional side effects. In school, there are rich students and poor students. There is no problem for rich students to buy pagers as their parents can afford it. Nonetheless, for a poor family, their parents may not have money to satisfy their wants. Then, their children may feel inferior and disappointed since they even don’t possess something that seems to be owned by all students. They may dare not make friends with students who have pagers; this does weaken their confidence. As a result, their academic results may also be affected as they don’t have confidence in study. In order to prevent it from happening, we should ban the use of pagers in school. Since then, no such thing will happen.
All in all, the use of pagers is not suitable in school. It arouses many problems that affect teachers and students inversely. The ban of using pagers in school is the most effective method to prevent many serious outcomes to come true. Therefore, it is necessary to ban it.
