Dear fellow sixth formers,
Have you ever hoped to be a teacher or a tutor? Sometimes when you sit in a classroom and listen to a teacher, you may imagine that you will be a teacher one day! Thus, it is high time for you to join our "Small Teachers Scheme?"!
Who are tutors? In fact, all of the senior form schoolmates can become one of them. However, as S.7 students have to cope with the Advanced Level Examination, S.6 students will be the only targets for being tutors. Generally speaking, this scheme will select the sixth form participants as tutors. Tutors will help the junior form students to solve their academic problems. Each tutor will only help one S.1 student in order to let him/her have intensive care. Therefore, we need more volunteers.
Undoubtedly, being a tutor will trigger some side-effects. It is time-consuming as you have to spend time on studying and spare time to teach one student at a time. Besides, you may face some obstacles in teaching others. If you study in the arts stream but you are asked to calculate a sum, you may get into trouble. Moreover, you have to be patient if your student cannot understand what you have taught him/her.
In fact, being a tutor provides you with more benefits; no matter how many problems you have to cope with, it is worth participating in the scheme.
A tutor may find difficulties in teaching a junior form after school; but for some tutors, they can treat the teaching process as their pastimes. In fact, many of us may hope to become teachers in future. Therefore, taking part in the scheme can provide them with a chance to gain teaching experience. They can learn how to teach students and communicate with strangers. They can even share the joy and sorrow in school with the lower form schoolmates. Eventually, they may treat the scheme as a learning process that is useful and meaningful.
Besides acting as a learning process in life, the scheme will benefit you academically. Some tutors may find difficulties in solving the students' problems, but this is the chance to recall or renew your knowledge. If you are an arts student, you may have to calculate a sum or solve scientific problems. You can apply your knowledge and consolidate what you have learned in junior forms. Remember, although you study arts, mathematical knowledge may be useful for your future study, such as studying in the business field, or even for your future career. For the science students, solving Chinese culture problems can even widen their horizon of our culture. Thus, the scheme is advantageous to all of the senior students!
The scheme is advantageous to junior form students. Their academic problems can be solved with the help of tutors. In fact, junior form students are not logical; a tutor can help them to develop cause and effect relationship or to think in form of a sequence. Gradually, their academic results can be enhanced.
Furthermore, they can save their money as the scheme is free. Their parents need not pay any money. The lower formers only spend time after school and a tutor can help them there. It is also time-saving at the same time!
All in all, all of you should give a helping hand to this scheme. Helping others is fruitful and meaningful. You should make a contribution to this school as you love this school and your schoolmates. Be wise to make your own choice!
Yours faithfully,
Chris Wong
