Life Style of Today's Young People
Fill in the nouns in the gaps.
According to some recent reports, more young people in Hong Kong are overweight and unfit than ever before. They do less exercise than they should do and they usually have an unbalanced diet. This worries the health experts. It is not hard to observe that many students don't have their proper lunch. They eat junk food and drink soft drinks as their lunch. In addition, students nowadays tend to avoid sports activities. Why do they avoid doing exercise? In this essay, I will examine the reasons for young people being overweight, and suggest methods for young people to improve their fitness.

Actually, the workload of the young people nowadays is extremely heavy, especially in the academic field. Every week, students get many assignments to work on so that they cannot spare time to play in the playground. Furthermore, students nowadays not only sit in their classrooms and listen to the teachers but also they are required to do projects in order to learn by their own. In fact, doing a project is very time-consuming. As I am a form seven science student, I have to make experiments in physics and chemistry. After that, I have to spend considerable time on writing laboratory reports. These routine pieces of work require much time to be completed but we cannot learn as much as we spent.

Besides, students nowadays, especially the senior form students have to spend time on extra-curricular activities after school. Senior form students have to discuss and organize activities for students through meetings that are usually long lasting. As I was the chairman of the Extra-curricular Activities Committee, I had to spend usually three to four hours on a meeting. This made me usually leave school after 7:00pm. I have little time left to study and do homework but how can I afford time to do exercise? On the other hand, the junior students have to spend much time on extra-curricular activities although they don't need to have "never-ending" meetings. For our school, every student is enjoined to choose at least one activity. Many of them are admitted to take some instrumental courses. They not only spend time on the course but also they have to spare time to practice the skills.
In fact, not all students are hardworking. Some of them have much time left but they are not willing to do exercise. Most of them spend time on playing computers and TV games at home. These activities are practised indoors and they don't require the young people to have physical exercise.

It is important to know that there are two ways to improve our health. One is having a balanced diet and the other one is to do more exercise. They are of equal importance in life.

A balanced diet should be made up of carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, roughage, proteins and water. Rice and bread are rich in carbohydrates. Vegetables and milk are rich in many kinds of vitamins and roughage. Fishes and meats are rich in proteins. Every day, we should drink at least eight glasses of water. The most important thing is that a balanced diet includes what our body needs a day. Students are recommended to have a proper meal for lunch. They can have lunch boxes provided by their schools. Actually, eating junk food is unhealthy.

In order to be fit, youngsters have to have a good habit to do exercise. Youngsters are recommended to have exercise at least once a week. On the other hand, students can make the best use of the PE lessons to do exercise. Furthermore, there are many sports activities held by the Urban Council. Students should try to join some of them.
All in all, improving your life style is conducive to improving your health ultimately. Don't hesitate! Make a good plan to exercise now. I do hope that our school will organize more sport activities for us. Students are encouraged to join them.
