Love or study?

Love or study? Difficult to choose! Maybe most of the young students have experienced their unforgettable romantic stories while they are studying. Some hold the view that schoolwork is so important that romantic relationships between boys and girls should wait until after form 7. Others claim that a wholesome romantic relationship is conducive l to both  young lovers. Knowing that there is the other side of a coin, this controversial issue has no exception either.

No one will deny that the responsibility of students is to work hard academically. Knowing that the educational system is examination-oriented and elite-oriented, students are only supposed to work hard. Critics claim that the school results and the public examination results will determine the students' future; therefore, students should devote themselves to study. As a result, most of the critics absolutely oppose a romantic relationship between two young people.

Some hold the view that once the young students fall in love, their schoolwork will be adversely affected. Psychologists state that most of the young people are not mature enough to deal with their love affairs. Some of the students  even don't even know what  the true meaning of love is. Moreover, love affairs are always associated with emotional disturbances and uncertainty. Immature young lovers may not know to allocate their time between study and love affairs.

Although most  people have divided opinions about  romantic relationships that boys and girls should suspend their love until after form 7;  some still claim that a romantic relationship is helpful. Some  research which has been done by a team of social workers reveals that most of the young lovers are mature enough to deal with their love affairs. Most of them know that love is mutual support and concerns. On the other hand, they realize that their target is to study. A pair of lovers always encourage each other to work hard. Thus, if the two lovers hold a true attitude of 'LOVE', this romantic relationship is undoubtedly conducive to both partner.

Love affairs between teenagers  seemed to be inevitable. Two young people may fall in love at  first sight. Or, after the two young people have developed their love for some time, they may feel that they need each other. Such cases are common. Especially for Hong Kong, most parents go to work, many young people want to have their own partners in order to solve their personal problems. Thus, romantic relationships between boys and girls are  natural.

As a S.6 student, I do believe that a healthy romantic relationship between boys and girls is acceptable under the guidance of their parents and teachers. May we hope that the young lovers know their main target is to study, as well as to pursue the true meaning of 'LOVE'!

Analyze the essay:

1.1 The title `love or study' is well-chosen because it reveals there is a choice for readers.

1.2 Since the writer is positive toward love, she puts the points in favor of study immediately after the introduction, and put the points for love in the later part of the essay. This arrangement of the content is appropriate because readers will be more impressed by the later reading than the earlier reading.

1.3 The ending with an exclamation mark is forceful because that is the climax of the essay.

1.4 The use of transition from changing the focus from discussing study to love.

In the fourth paragraph, the writer writes:

Although most  people hold the view that romantic relationships between boys and girls should suspend their love until after form 7; however, some still claim that a healthy romantic relationship is acceptable.

The use of transition is appropriate to show  readers the change of the course of discussion.
