Account for an increase in the crime rate.

Armed robbery refers to anyone who uses weapons to take properly from households or shops unlawfully. The crime rate has been escalating in recent years, while Hong Kong is enjoying its prosperity. Before finding measures to fight against crimes, we should look into the causes of the increase in the crime rate.

The citizens have been complaining again and again about  the `uselessness' of the police force. The arms used by the robbers are much more powerful than those used by the police. People think that the policemen are weaker than the robbers. Besides, there are many regulations to govern the use of guns. The policemen have to hand reports to senior officials if they fire a bullet. Therefore,  policemen should use their arms with great care in order not to be charged. This situation  finally leads to low morale in the police force and indirectly facilitate the number of crimes.

The larger availability and lower price of arms make it easier for the robbers  to obtain guns.  Robbers can purchase  arms from the illegal organizations that smuggle guns from Mainland China. Robbers use the guns to threaten such people as the shopkeepers. to achieve their goals. If the people resist the robbers, their lives may be at risk. As a result, they will follow the robbers' instructions and the robbers can get the money with ease. Due to the success of armed robbery, many gangs join such  illicit activities.

The stability and prosperity of Hong Kong does not only lead to economic growth but also bring about some negative effects. There are more and more shops such as goldsmiths, selling luxury items established.  There is a new trend that many shop-owners like to display their expensive commodities unattended in the windows. People who are materialistic will be tempted to rob or steal from the shops; thus resulting  in an increase in the crime rate.

Internationalized robberies are difficult to deal with. These robberies are usually on a very large scale. After  committing a robbery, the robbers will flee to other countries as they have forged passports. It is difficult for the local police force to detect the robbers  beyond  Hong Kong's boundary. Therefore, countries should join hands with one another to combat crimes. International police force may help if necessary. However, many of the robberies on an  international scale have not yet been detected.

All in all, the crime rate is escalating to the peak. Therefore, the government should set up a more comprehensive legislative system to combat the ever-increasing crimes.
